During the Groom
Every dog is different, and grooming time varies. We prioritize your dog's comfort over speed. Several factors influence how long a session may take:

Caring for Double-Coated Dogs
Dogs with double coats—such as Long-haired Chihuahuas, Huskies, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, and many other breeds—have a soft undercoat beneath a protective outer coat. Together, these layers help protect the skin from sun, heat, cold, dirt, and moisture.
Shaving a double coat can interfere with its natural growth cycle. In some dogs, the coat may grow back unevenly, change texture, or take a long time to return to normal. Removing the protective outer coat can also leave the skin more exposed to sunburn, irritation, and temperature changes.
For most double-coated dogs, regular brushing and professional de-shedding are healthier choices than shaving. Removing loose undercoat helps improve airflow, reduces shedding and matting, and keeps the coat functioning the way nature intended.
At Vickey's, our goal is always to choose the grooming method that best supports your dog's comfort, skin, and long-term coat health.
